New to this blog? Curious about me, but don’t want to dig through the archives? I’ve put together this sampler to give you a taste of what to expect here.
During any given week, you might find:
- My own writing, including fiction
- Ample helpings of my photos and other visual art
- Work by guest artists
- Active conversations in the Comments section
In addition, I write constantly on the following:
My values and goals (what do I feel compelled to do with my life?)
- Life Is Not Art (an early manifestation of the Art of Life Handbook — scroll down to the handbook if you’d rather not read the whole thought process)
- My life list at 30 (I’m not a huge fan of the term “bucket list,” but that’s what this is)
- My Creative Autobiography, from a Twyla Tharp exercise
- Politics/Privilege
- On Goals
My fears and anxieties (what stops me in my tracks?)
- Mortality and the balancing act
- Existential loneliness
- I am authentic enough
- Breadth versus depth (precursor to embracing polymathy — and some good book recommendations)
- What does it take to make me work? (Answer: creative, idiosyncratic problem-solving!)
My margins and my personal history (where do I come from? what is the intersection of myself and normative?)
- Reframing privilege and value (and the later corollary, Invisible, parallel lives)
- Gender frustration: why I don’t have kids yet
- Asianness
- My family (also: a less serene side of our relationship)
- Body image for myself and my art
- My daily life
- What I like, and 7 random facts about me
Enjoy!

This is such a good idea. I’m going to take my time and dip in. One of the great things I like about your blog is your openness. Good for you. 🙂
Thanks so much, Alan! I think I got the idea from Stacie’s blog. Her “hey” page was such a good intro to her blog when I first found it, I wanted to make something similar for mine… though as usual I’ve been much more long-winded.
I can’t seem to help the openness; I think it’s congenital. ;b
