All the Young Nudes is moving venues and may not meet next week, so this week’s event may have been my last life drawing session in Scotland. Also possibly my last one for months, since I haven’t yet been able to find any in Reykjavík (or the other cities we’re thinking of visiting after Iceland). So it goes! At least I had a lot of fun at this one.

Last week I wanted to use my watercolor pencils, but I forgot my waterbrush. This week, I was thinking of using the markers I’ve been using for the street sketches, only I left those at home! Go figure! So I went back to the watercolor pencils, but I didn’t make as much use of the wash as usual.
As I always say, I’m so grateful I’ve had these opportunities to keep up the life drawing while abroad. They’ve been great practice and also good times to meet and talk to locals (and other visitors), so I’m doubly thankful!

i’m loving the pink-ish/red one, the green one, and the sepia-toned from the back one. i know i say this all the time, but your drawings are AMAZING. i think sometimes it’s hard for me to see your progress objectively because i pretty much see your drawings every day (well, every post as they come along) and each time i’m just like “COOL that looks AWESOME!” but i think if i actually take a step back and think objectively, this really shows AMAZING progress from back in the day. like….. WHOA.
Aahhhh thank you 🙂 🙂 Yeah, it’s pretty weird, isn’t it? It’s like going jogging (or in your case… swimming?). You start out where every step/stroke is a struggle, and you look at the people who zoom by apparently without exertion, and you just think there’s such a gap between you. But in between the beginner stage and the master there is such a huge territory where you’re achieving ease and stamina and finesse and you don’t even notice. Everyone can see the two endpoints but there aren’t any obvious milestones in the middle, except for looking back and comparing!
