Morning blurbs

It’s raining here. What the heck.

We’re cat-sitting Jackie’s boy, Pasha, and Lyapa thinks he’s a disrespectful young whippersnapper. She tells me so every chance she gets.

Last night was our weekly movie night with Jason. Christen came too, yay! We were supposed to watch Life with Father, but Jason thought Bowling for Columbine would be more appropriate. It was. I’d never seen it before, but I can’t imagine that it would be more depressing when it first came out than it was to watch it after Monday’s horror at Virginia Tech. When they mentioned that 12 students and 1 teacher were killed at Columbine… and the Blacksburg numbers make those 13 lives seem like a small number… something is very, very wrong. I think the best response I’ve read yet is the letter from Alfred, NY. I would embrace that.

The small bit of strength training that I did yesterday was unexpectedly exhausting, and my hand weights weren’t even three pounds (I didn’t have dumbbells, so I used two 2-lb-11-oz wine bottles). I guess I haven’t done a pure strength workout since high school. This morning I feel a bit sore but mostly all right, which I think is thanks to the massive stretching I did last night before going to bed. It’s good, it’s good. I’m going to do more strength workouts from now on.

LA friends: Would you like to come to our weekly board game night this Saturday?
