Surrender

I’ve been seeing a lot of this quiz on people’s blogs lately. So I gave in to the imaginary pressure, and here are my results. They’re pretty accurate, actually, for both me and Erik–in terms of what’s important to me, what we’re both like, and what I’d like to see more of. 🙂

Your dating personality profile:Liberal – Politics matters to you, and you aren’t afraid to share your left-leaning views. You would never be caught voting for a conservative candidate.
Big-Hearted – You are a kind and caring person. Your warmth is inviting, and your heart is a wellspring of love.
Stylish – You do not lack for fashion sense. Style matters. You wouldn’t want to be seen with someone who doesn’t care about his appearance.
Your date match profile:Intellectual – You seek out intelligence. Idle chit-chat is not what you are after. You prefer your date who can stimulate your mind.
Big-Hearted – You want someone compassionate, someone gentle and kind. A loving, nurturing person will fill that hole in your life.
Romantic – You need someone with a traditional understanding of romance. A true romantic is a must-have in any potential date.

Currently puttering around organizing my apartment and waiting for my baked beans to finish. I did a cookbook “don’t” and started a recipe without reading it all the way through first–how was I to know the beans would have to bake for six hours? Anyway, they’re almost done now, and I sampled them about half an hour ago, and they’re tasty.

Margaret and I are going to hear Han-Na Chang Wednesday night at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. I am incredibly excited about this: Han-Na is a wonderful cellist and one of my favorite performers. I’ve heard her before, twice, but both previous times were with an orchestra, while this time it’s a solo recital. It’s a great program, too: she’s playing the third of Bach’s Unaccompanied Cello Suites (go here [link broken] to hear part of it), something by Britten and a piece by Ligeti. I don’t know Britten well, but Ligeti is crazy and contemporary, so it’ll be a great mix. I am so excited. I’ve had kind of an itch for live music lately, so this is especially welcome. LA people, you should go to this recital. The tickets aren’t expensive–the cheapest are $15–and if you think the sound of a recorded cello is beautiful, you need to hear it live.

Go here to hear Han-Na play Saint-Saëns’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor. This is off her début album–recorded when she was thirteen! [link broken, but try here]

Tomorrow morning Karen and I are going for an early-morning walk by the beach. I’ll bring my camera!
