What is life? (Artist statement, part 1)

satsumaart 26 March 2012 19 Comments

What is the goal of life? To be happy? No, because sometimes it's not possible, and where does that leave us? (Happiness is important, though!) The goal is to live. (To exist, as yourself, as fully as possible.) This doesn't mean clinging to ego, but embracing this physical existence as unique and unrepeatable.

(Part 2 will be posted tomorrow.)

I literally was getting ready to take notes wondering how I could better my artist statement by learning from Lisa. Thank you for putting a laugh in my throat and a smile on my face and sending me back to living. This MFA thing has got me consumed!

I like this. So simple, but it resonates with me because it’s within my reach at any time. Inhabiting the moment as myself. Being open to the best of randomness.

Now if only other people wouldn’t get in my way. (You knew I had to say it!)

Thank you, RΓ©! Heh, you say whatever you need to! πŸ˜€

That’s what I like about “to live” too — it’s always within reach.

Thank you so much, Alan!! By the way, is that a new avatar or have I somehow just never noticed it before? I love it. πŸ™‚

I really like this painting; Truely there is complexity in simplicity.
    You are amazing.
Thank you for sharing. It certainly makes me think of my life.

Thank you deeply, Ceezpaul. πŸ™‚ Complexity in simplicity… yes. I was just thinking the other day that I have a total love affair going on with both complexity and simplicity. I always feel like everything is infinitely complicated, but also very very simple. It makes me happy if I can convey that in my work!
