Workshops & residencies
2011: 8th Annual Interdisciplinary Writers Lab, San Francisco. I was selected to participate in this 8-week, interdisciplinary, experimental writing workshop, which culminated in an online anthology and two readings.
2010: Voices of Our Nations (VONA) writing workshop, San Francisco. VONA was founded in 1999 and is the nation’s only multi-genre workshop for writers of color. I was selected to be in Residency with M. Evelina Galang.
Degrees
MA, History, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), 2007.
BA with high honors, History, University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), 2004. Senior thesis, “Eating the Exotic: The Growing Acceptability of Chinese Cuisine in San Francisco, 1848-1915.“
Other experience
I was the Echo Park Branch coordinator of the Los Angeles Public Library’s Adult Literacy Program from 2007-08. I don’t include this for resume fodder, but because I’m proud of the experience. I helped get the Echo Park literacy center off the ground and matched dozens of adult students with volunteer tutors, while tutoring several students myself. My experience here still informs the way I see reading and books, not to mention the world and its people.
