A birthday reflection, and where to find me now

Yesterday was my birthday.
My 40th birthday was during the pandemic. It felt different, yet bizarrely familiar.
On my 38th birthday, I surrounded myself with cozy delights.
Before my 33rd birthday, I was depressed as protests erupted in Ferguson, MO. I wrote, "We as a society are afraid of collective grief, Black grief particularly. I think we realize, if we were to honor it, it could unweave everything."
On my 31st birthday, I reflected on a past year of world travel.
On my 29th birthday, I wrote, "I've really come to appreciate in the last year just how much I owe to others. I can't ever pay it back, so all I can do is foster more love in this world, in whatever ways I can."
On my 28th birthday, I wrote, "This is the first birthday in which I see the future as a finite vista rather than an infinity of possibility. I think a lot more now about my place in the world and how I spend my time... I feel the responsibility deeply."
On my 20th birthday, I wrote, "The best part of birthdays is feeling loved."

I don’t blog much anymore, for several reasons, but for months now I’ve been posting 1-2 visual diaries (text + illustration) on my art Instagram almost every week (I posted the above images yesterday). These days, that’s the best place to find my public updates. I thought about archiving all of them here on the blog, but (a) I don’t know if I’ll ever get to that, and (b) as a privacy-desiring person, I like not having an easily-searchable archive (though I confess that as a general user of the internet, it does bother me that social media is not very Googleable).

I think I will always be very fond of this blog and the community I’ve found here over the years. But for now, come over to IG if you want to keep up with my latest.
