I wrote yesterday about how I got really lost on the way to All the Young Nudes on Tuesday. Well, I did get there eventually (and on time), and here are the pictures from the session. I’m hiding them behind the cut, since they are mostly frontal nudes. As always, click on the images to enlarge, or mouse over for commentary.
The model, Johanna, had the most fabulously lengthy figure I’ve ever drawn.
I had a lot of fun, Johanna was a great model, and it was totally worth getting lost. π I’m so happy I’m finding all these life drawing opportunities on our travels — and I’m so glad I checked the website for ATYN when I went last week in Glasgow, or I wouldn’t have known they started meeting in Edinburgh too!

ooo love those quick poses
Thank you! Me too — her hair and limbs lend themselves well to pencil scribbles. π
I love a lot about these. The proportion of the body in most of them is striking. The vibrancy and luminosity of the color in the last sets it apart as a beauty very worthy of a frame.
Thanks, RΓ©! Her proportions truly are striking. Every body is fun to draw but I find that some are more distinctive than others. π
Gorgeous! Beautiful lines!
Thank you, Sherry! π
Great. I love the line drawings particularly.
You seem to be in the majority! π (Assuming you’re talking about the plain pencil sketches, not the ones with color.)
Very nice work Lisa. So much fluid form in your drawings. And beautiful color composition.
Thank you so much, Walter! I appreciate it. π
As always, I like your drawings. I find myself liking the black and white ones better than the color. I’ve been looking at these trying to figure out why and I think it’s that I can see the object better when there is no color to distract me. Color almost makes the drawings too much ‘in my face’ if that makes sense. The simple lines of pencil, charcoal, etc. seem to allow me to see more. Whatever the reason, these are wonderful.
Thank you, Lisa! I see what you mean about the color versus black and white. It’s definitely a different kind of expression in each. The b/w ones here were all done in a water-soluble graphite pencil (some with a water wash), but I’ve got some charcoal ones coming up — it’ll be interesting to see what you think of those! Charcoal is such a different medium and one I don’t work with very often; I have a love-hate relationship with it (and it’s messy).
Lisa
It seems you just keep getting better. There is a bit more freedom in your sketches now, like more abandon. I guess traveling gives you that urge/edge. Miss you!
Miss you too, dear Kuukua! Thank you so much. π I’m glad you notice more freedom — I think I do feel that way. A little more “carpe diem.”
[…] think there’s a big difference in my black-and-white sketches versus the color ones, don’t you? I kept thinking of a comment Lisa made on my last week’s drawings, about […]
