Happy Friday, delicious people, and welcome to the Open Mic! If you’re new here, on Fridays we get together here for some chat. (Sometimes there’s a guest artist instead.) The topic varies from week to week, but everyone is welcome to participate in the comments.
Woke up this morning from a day of driving and moving, and a dream that I was playing with chickens to the sounds of Johnny Cash. There’s a weird feeling of strain in my left mid-back, and today is another day of packing and moving. But I stepped out into the living room and saw this outside:
There are about five trees that block our view of the bay. When they are bare-branched I wish they weren’t there, but every spring they cover themselves with blossoms almost overnight. These ones are usually first. In another few weeks or so, the others will join them, adding white blossoms to the pink. Every time it happens all I can do is stand there and gasp.
Share with us a moment of beauty from your day. It doesn’t have to be visual. It can be a fabulous song you heard, some incredible thing you smelled or tasted, a warm hug, an illuminating fantasy.
See you in the comments!
I went to the movies and saw the incredible film Pina, a tribute to choreographer Pina Bausch. Afterwards, my friend and I sat in the theater talked and talked all the way home about how we interpreted each dance. truly a beautiful, thought provoking film.
Oh!! Thank you for reminding me that I was curious about that movie. I’ve heard a lot about Pina Bausch from one of my dancer friends. I’ll look for it after our move. 🙂
Today, while driving my children to yet another birthday party, a Reggae version of Katy Perry’s “Firework” came on. My son, who was riding shotgun, and I exchanged this look as if to say, “not another Reggae remix!” I laughed so hard while listening to my daughters in the backseat try to keep up wit’ de riddims! 🙂 The girls thought that their brother and I were laughing at them, but we were laughing about our observation that no song is off limits when it comes to Reggae, not even a girls empowerment anthem! I wish I could have freeze-frame that moment of connection between my son and me. T’was beautiful!
Aw, that sounds lovely, Empress! I bet he relished that moment of connection too. 🙂
My daughter called today and we talked for over an hour about writing, politics, neuroscience and history. It was spirited, invigorating conversation. But it was calming, too. She brightened my day.
*beam* Sounds like an excellent conversation!
