Faugh, why is it that I never seem to get anything done on Mondays? I didn’t even get my morning pages done, which I guess is not surprising since I usually do them during breakfast and today I didn’t have any. And I’ve been trying all day to find a little window of time for my weekly review (I’ll do it after I clock out here). So where did my day go?
Partly the problem is that we went out at 10 this morning, and again just after 2 this afternoon. Difficult. I decided after yesterday’s morning cardio that I’ve got to start exercising first thing in the morning once again — last week I worked out for just under two hours, a sad comedown from my 4-8 hour weeks last year — but on Mondays, Bridges doesn’t open until 10, so that’s when we went. Before 10, I only had time to check my email and put in some laundry. Then, of course, I was ravenous by the time we finished our workouts, so we had lunch out… and then stopped by the supermarket and the library before we got home, and there went the morning. I checked emails again, unloaded and reloaded laundry, took a shower, retaped Tisha’s bandages, and somehow it was time to leave for my singing lesson.
The singing lesson outing proved a mini artist date, so I do appreciate that. I met my teacher at a little church in Berkeley instead of at her house, and being in that lovely space surrounded by the grey rainy day, it really felt like a sacred place. I had the chance to practice with a CD I recently bought, and now that song has been in my head ever since. I just love folk songs from any culture, and these Scottish ones are particularly mesmerizing. Now I can sing “On a bank of flowers.” 🙂 (Click the CD link to hear what it sounds like — the CD, not me!) After the lesson I held on to that peaceful feeling by walking up and down University Avenue for a few blocks, just exploring. I ate a delicious hazelnut chocolate, exchanged smiles with the UPS guy, poked my head into a couple of shops, and wandered awestruck through the sunshiny rainbow that is Talavera Ceramics. Then I got back on the highway and inched back home in rush-hour traffic, listening to the Jean Redpath CD all the way.
When I got home, I meant to do my weekly review right away, but I made the mistake of checking my email, and found that jerseymaids was interested in trading with me. I spent a long time perusing her atmospheric creations, then peeked at her profile and discovered Girls with Slingshots:
There’s a talking cactus, yes.
I have been reading GWS all evening, and I’m finally up to strip #701 (current is #864). I love this comic so much. After reading so much blah graphic novels, it’s a genuine pleasure to find comics I really enjoy, and by a woman, too. I already sent Danielle Corsetto a fan email!
And that’s it for the day, it seems. I’m going to tear myself away from GWS long enough to do my weekly review, and then I’m going to bed. Let’s hope tomorrow will be more productive!
ohhh webcomics always suck me in. if i find one i like i’ll just sit and click click click through the archives until i’ve finished every last one!
That is exactly what I did with this one. 🙂
