Quilt-squares bag

I finished the bag I made yesterday! Reinforced all the seams (when I first made it, I anticipated lots of seam-ripping so I deliberately didn’t backtack) and then attempted a lining of unbleached muslin — which worked!!! I’m so excited about this.

I didn’t think I would be able to figure out a lining, but last night I began sewing together FabMo fabric squares for another bag for the shop, stopping before doing the sides. I realized I had a flat shape that would work perfectly as a pattern for the lining, so I used this to make the lining for the prototype bag.

I cut it today, finished the edges, pinned and stitched it to the bag. I am so, so pleased with it, and can’t wait to try it with the new FabMo bag for the shop. I’m going to try using one of Anjali’s silk saris for this, to complement the luxe look of the FabMo fabrics, but I’m a little wary of working with such a big piece of silk. I haven’t decided yet quite what to do… should I back the silk with muslin? That will make it basically a double lining; will that be too heavy or thick? I will just give it a try and see what happens.
