Morning pages — finished up this book, will have to start a new one tomorrow — and a bit of procrastinating before realizing with some panic that I am very much in danger of missing the deadline for publishing my FBN. I’m going to have to go to Martinez tomorrow to the Contra Costa News Register office to pay the fee and turn in the paperwork… hope everything goes fine for publication starting on Friday, otherwise I’ll be late. Bleh.
Finished going through my biggest Chinese American history book; learned some very interesting and perplexing facts. The witch hunts of the McCarthy era were not easy on Chinese Americans or people with ties to China; how did Mommy’s family get by during that time? I’ll have to ask Gong-Gong next time I go home. I suspect the answers to my questions about this period will be significant to the family history project.
Scanned more family photos.
Attempted the bag made of fabric squares that I saw in the thrift/vintage shop in Martinez. I stitched the front and back and then couldn’t figure out how to do the sides. I tried and tried and my two versions looked equally stupid. I finally called Erik over and he looked over my sketches and my prototype, and came up with the answer in about three minutes. I’m such a dunce at 3D visualization, I didn’t even understand it after he explained it to me, so we had to make a paper mockup and then I got it. Now the bag is done, made of scraps and one of my least favorite of the vintage fat quarters I bought in Orland, and it is kind of the cutest bag ever. Tomorrow, when the light is better, I’ll take a photo and post it. I’m so excited about this bag, I’ve already cut enough squares from FabMo fabrics to make another bag.
I don’t know if I’m ever going to bother trying to figure out how to do the lining, though!
And the prototype is so cute, I think I’ll finish all the seams properly and then use it myself. ;b
