I have so much to post, but I have to finish two books (not read, finish, don’t worry) tonight and write a paper on them, so there’s only time to write down one very important thing I learned today that I want to be sure not to forget:
I must never let academia or academics determine my self-worth. I am so much greater than the sum of my papers, research, etc… or lack thereof.
Thanks to Margaret for helping me figure this out. 🙂
And thanks to Dana, Jennifer and Maggie for a wonderful evening. Now I’m content and mentally prepared to write my paper.
What a day. What a week. And it’s only Wednesday. More later.

Re: “I must never let academia or academics determine my self-worth”
Well, you’d be surprised how caught up in it you get. I guess it’s like office politics. Since that’s what you spend a lot of your time doing, it gets to you. As one girl I met in Chicago said, “I knew someone who worked in a ski shop and you wouldn’t believe the kind of gossip…” Once you start spending that much time in an environment it gets harder and harder to remember who you are outside of it. Sadly.
