i’m writing my L&S paper on veganism, and all the research i’m doing on it is making me interested in it. i wish i had the willpower to become a vegan, but unfortunately i like my meat quite a lot. and anyone who knows me fairly well knows what i think of tofu…
what i didn’t know before researching this paper was that veganism isn’t the same as vegetarianism in terms of motivation. it’s pretty easy to become a vegetarian, and you might do it because you think it’s mean to eat animals. it’s much, much more difficult and inconvenient and annoying to be vegan, as you can imagine, and you do it not only because you think it’s mean to eat animals, but because you realize that the entire animal industry causes incredible suffering to animals. that means you can’t eat the most random things, since many things we don’t even think about are processed with animal products, and you can’t wear leather or wool or silk… a lot of things you can’t do. it makes me really admire all the people who have the strength to keep up a vegan diet.
