it’s hard to keep an online journal when there isn’t too much happening in your life, or when what is happening isn’t necessarily stuff you’d care to publish on the internet. that said, i am going to try to write more. in fact, i’m going to try to do more in general… summer school’s going to start before i know it, so i’d better get out of my eat-sleep-playgames mode as soon as i can!
yesterday i did shra’s makeup for senior ball (no, she’s not a senior. she went with brian.). i’m out of practice with makeup, as i haven’t worn it in months, so i had a few scary moments, but the end result was nice. shra looked great, of course, she always does, but i do think a little makeup is appropriate for evening. i hear brian liked it. ๐ especially since brian doesn’t like makeup as a rule… i’m gratified.
this morning i got to go out on a walk with erik ๐ i was very happy. i felt mopey because he was supposed to move in to his apartment yesterday, but he only just got back from taiwan less than a week ago so we didn’t have much time together. then it turned out he came home for the night (too much stuff to move in one day) so i got to see him for one more day ๐ we went to picasso for dinner friday night, too. it was great and he really liked it — i’m so happy! i love picasso’s and i was sad when i took mommy there and she didn’t like it. (those of you who don’t know, picasso’s is an authentic spanish restaurant in downtown san jose. it’s a tiny place, but their paellas and tapas are lovely. my only complaint with spanish cuisine is that the desserts just aren’t that exciting. but oh well. who needs dessert when you can have tapas and paella. ๐ )
for lunch today we went with jackie’s parents to valley fair. nordstrom has been remodeled and they have a very tony looking new cafe, the cafe bistro or something like that. the decor was certainly gorgeous, but i didn’t really like it that much. it seemed too glorified and grand for just a clothes store. in fact, as i remarked to shra, it reminded me of disneyland — you know, there’s a theme, and everything is centered around the theme from the silverware to the ceiling to the curtains. it absolutely screamed ‘look, i’m upscale! i’ve been designed by a decorator!’ not very subtle. so i wasn’t sure how the food would be. to my pleasant surprise it was quite good. i had the warm asian glazed chicken salad (i think that was what it was called). it was huge! it came in a bowl the size of the large size bowls at pho places. nice presentation, too. roasted chicken breast slices over a salad containing, among other things, basil leaves, strips of fried wonton wrapper, and red and yellow bell peppers. the dressing, which wasn’t disgustingly oily and in huge quantities (most restaurants put tons of dressing and it’s usually quite oily, if it’s not a cream dressing; i don’t normally eat dressing at all), was ginger sesame and pretty yummy. the cutest thing was that they put a pair of very thin breadsticks in the bowl so they looked like chopsticks. they were yummy, too. ๐ i was definitely pleased with the food and will go back to the cafe bistro next time i’m at nordstrom. even if the overly gorgeous decor does make me want to cover my eyes. ๐
