As you may remember from a week ago, I’ve been slowly developing a new item for October’s FabMo boutique: lightly fragranced wrist rests, for use with the computer mouse.* Last week I researched and experimented with the filling and scenting process, and this week I made a sample removable case. One thing I’ve never liked about the wrist rests you get from stores is that they can’t be washed, so over time they just get more and more filthy until finally you have to throw them out. As you can imagine, this runs contrary to my whole eco-friendly philosophy! So when I set out to design my own wrist rests, washable cases were a definite priority.
As it turned out, I also got to use this first case as a testing ground for my brand-new custom Satsumabug fabric labels! I’d been thinking about getting labels for a long time, but it wasn’t until I found some affordable organic ones on Etsy that I took the plunge. I’m so glad I did! Now all my items will be labeled with my logo (though in as unobtrusive a location as I can manage; I’m not out to brand-wash the world!). I know it always irks me when I like a product but have forgotten where I got it, and there’s no label on it to remind me. From now on that won’t be a problem with my creations. 🙂
While I was making the wrist rests, I thought about the info cards I’ll include with them. I want to remind buyers to set up their workstations ergonomically, to take breaks and stretch, and above all, not to substitute wrist rests for medical advice or physical therapy! Then I realized I wasn’t taking my own advice — I’ve been using my wrists all afternoon and haven’t taken a single break! Maybe after I get the info cards printed up, I should stick one up by my own computer… 😉
*If I perfect the wrist rests, I may also try a keyboard wrist rest.

Those labels are cute!
Thanks, Lisa! I’m really happy with them!
[…] boutique. I’m very happy with them and I think their buyers will love them too. As I planned when I started, they all have removable, washable (or dry-cleanable) outer covers, and they’re accented with […]
