No photos for you today, but I’ve been perfectly busy! Did some more decoupaging, made a tote which I’ll show you and tell you about tomorrow, bought a dance class pass for a San Francisco studio and tickets for a play at the Berkeley Rep, went through tons of reply-to emails… a good day, and so much happier than yesterday’s funk.
Two thoughts from the day:
Working from home makes me gladder to eat out
I never imagined that working from home would prompt me both to cook frequently and to really relish eating out! But every time I go out to eat, or go food shopping, it’s like a little gift of being waited on and taken out of my usual surroundings for the price of something I’d be doing anyway. I’m not explaining it very well, but I just really appreciate eating out on weekdays now, and will consciously build these outings into my days when I need a little pick-me-up. And I’ve done good work in restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops, so I’m not just justifying a luxury.
Satsumabug sample sale?
The more new projects I try, the more I generate items that are not quite worthy of the shop but still perfectly functional and cute. If I accumulate enough of these, I’m considering holding a twice-yearly sample/seconds sale. I began by putting seconds in my shop, but lately I find that when I’ve spent hours and hours being frustrated over something that doesn’t come out right, the last thing I want to do is spend more time photographing and describing it. But if I give it a few months, I have more perspective, and doing all the photographing at once would make my life much easier. Also, some people need the concept of a sample sale explained to them, and that’s not easy to do if I only have a couple of seconds in the shop at any given moment. So what if I save up all my imperfects, and then hold a massive-ish sale in the spring and again in the fall? I’m thinking $15 and under prices, tops, and free to friends if they’ll pay for shipping.
Yesterday I spent three hours after dinner on the phone with my mom, helping her with a paper she’s writing for her community-college class. It’s an interesting paper, but 7:30-10:30 PM is a long stretch to be doing anything, and I don’t have a phone headset anymore (old one broke). Tonight I’m looking forward to a nice quiet hour with Aveyond and some vegan sandwich cookies. π Here’s wishing you all an equally peaceful night!
I totally know what you mean about eating out being such a treat. Now that we cook nearly all of our meals at home, our monthly dinner out is like a holiday.
I LOVE your sample sale idea!! You should totally give it a try. Hope your evening was wonderful and relaxing π
Wow, you eat out only once a month?? Super kudos to you! I don’t know if we could ever manage that. But never say never — we’ve cut down our eating out SO much in the past few months. But… good dim sum just across the street from our climbing gym… π
I’m glad you like the sample sale concept! I think I’m going to do it — just wrote a long post about two more items I’m adding to that inventory. ;b
The evening was a bit too relaxing; I was up past midnight playing my computer game. ;b Aauughh! But today Erik wrote a program that will shut off my computer automatically at 9:15 (with a 5-minute warning to give me time to save work and stuff), so that won’t happen again. π One of the great perks of having a programmer for a partner: he can save me from myself!;b
ahhh there’s no way sean would dare risk his life by putting such a program on my computer ;P
Hahaha I actually asked Erik to do it. And it helped!! Last night I got plenty of sleep AND did the dishes and some tidying up before bed. Wow!
