Satsumabug gears up for the holiday season

Bleh, cramps. Not feeling so cozy right now.

Decent work day today, with ups and downs. (Well, really, an up and a down, though it just looks silly in the singular.) Morning pages, and worked on drafting my next Satsumabug newsletter. (Oy, I’m tired. “Drafting” came out “drafint.” I’ve noticed that as I get older, my typos become more spectacular.) It’s pretty much ready to send out, but in it I talk up a few products I don’t have enough of in the shop yet, so I’m hurrying to make/list more so I can send the newsletter out before Thanksgiving. It’s going to have some nice holiday deals in it!

Spent most of the day finishing my two new quilt-squares bags, which are now listed in the shop. I had thought that this would take 1-2 hours, but it ended up taking about 2.5 hours, and then another 1.5 hours to take all the photos and list the bags on Etsy. After this I was completely worn out — my time log actually says “4-4:20: lie around being exhausted.” I didn’t have a particularly good lunch so I think it was partly just low blood sugar, but also I’ve just been doing so much sewing lately and wanting to do so many other things. It’s draining. But this is the busy season for those of us working in giftable retail!! And I’m still getting lots of hits on my page, which is gratifying; my original quilt-squares bag exceeded 200 views today!

After my 20-minute dead flop, Erik and I went for a little walk, which really perked me up (I also complained to him the entire way about my many insignificant woes — seriously, really insignificant, like “I wanted to make sweet-potato pie filling today but we don’t have any eggs! What am I going to do?”* — which also helped, but doubtless poor Erik wanted to flee), and then I had vegetables and noodles and sweet mashed pumpkin for dinner, which has kept me going until now (and the house beautifully fragrant).

After dinner I picked out, ironed, and cut fabrics for eye-pillow travel cases (like this one), and managed to make three. Two are shop-worthy but one came out a little odd. It’s made of very cute fabric so I’d like to do something with it; we’ll wait until I’m feeling smarter and then see if inspiration strikes. 🙂

Tomorrow I plan to get up early and get some more work done before I leave for Bridges at 11:45; after that, I’ll be out all day, possibly past dinnertime, so that morning time (and a little break I’ll get from 1-1:30) will be all my work time for the day!!

Oh, almost forgot to mention. One thing I’ve noticed since I started keeping a time log: some things take a lot longer than you’d think, but other things take much shorter. I think I’m just losing my sense of time.

*Problem solved by cooking mashed pumpkin with cinnamon, brown sugar, butter, and freshly grated nutmeg. The sweet potatoes will keep until tomorrow, when we’ll get our CSA eggs and I can make the pie filling. Not for pie. Just to eat.
