Got up early this morning to drive across the bay to Palo Alto, to help sort fabrics before this weekend’s FabMo distribution. That was fun, and I picked up a lot of really beautiful fabrics, including several big pieces that will be great for making yoga mat totes.
Stopped by Cactus Jungle on my way home to pick up our succulent wreath (so cute!!). That place is always so invigorating; it’s like entering a new world full of funny-looking plants I’m not acquainted with. 🙂
Got home and sorted through the FabMo fabrics, even taking the trouble to rip off the small pieces (some of the big pieces of printed fabric come with several smaller pieces of the same pattern in different colors sewn on in an overlapping way I now know is called a “waterfall” or “cascade”). This is one of the small things I learned at the sorting today. I felt really young there, but there are benefits to being in a room full of experienced seamsters!
Last night I reread bits of the Built By Wendy Sew U book, and it makes me feel very inadequate, even though my sewing skills are far better than they used to be (and I think I turn out some pretty decent-looking stuff). It just seems that garment construction is a totally different animal than making bags and things, and shortcuts are a lot less workable… I’ve got a lot to learn. I think I will have to take the sewing books I have and go through them carefully, as though taking a course, if I want to be able to make clothes that are up to my standard. Sigh. But oh well; I’ve still got soooo many bags to keep me busy in the meantime. 😉 I really want to do some more so I can update my shop!!
Spent most of the evening doing household cleaning and watching Glee. I am all caught up now, alas. This show so charms me.
