Retroactive clock-out for weekend

I got a surprising amount of creative work done this weekend in spite of the engagement party hubbub. It was a very well-filling time.

The biggest deal is that on Saturday, after the party, relatives stuck around and looked at old photos, and started telling stories about their time in China. I took notes, and have decided I’m going to start my family history graphic novel very soon, in the form of short vignettes which will help me develop both style and structure. I’m very excited about this and intend to focus primarily on this work and my prose novel. This wasn’t my decision as much as the universe decided this for me. My decision is to go along with it.

I also saw Julie & Julia again, with Mommy, revisited some very inspiring picture books, read some other stuff, and wrote a lot.

I think I’m going to undertake an informal course of studying picture books, too, to hone my style. The older ones, especially, are amazing, and often quite idiosyncratic. This will be good for me to see.

I had scheduled an artist date/research trip today to the El Sobrante Public Library, to happen after lunch. I think I’ll spend my time there looking through both Chinese and Chinese American histories, and picture books. 🙂 Exciting!
