Morning pages, journal entry on Julie & Julia, finally called and registered for RAC life drawing uninstructed studio to begin in two weeks, called Farm Sanctuary to reserve their cabin for a couple of nights in early October, and made an eye patch so I can do drawing exercises. That was my entire morning.
After lunch, went to singing lesson — which was a good one — and then discovered Stone Mountain & Daughter Fabrics on Shattuck. (I guess that was my artist date for the week. It was fun.) Bought finer sewing machine needles for dealing with silk, and a new book on easy sewing projects (how to hem, and take in/let out!). Made dinner à la a Julia Child menu/recipe in The French Chef Cookbook with Erik, played too much online game, and now have been listening to earlyish Smashing Pumpkins while sewing eye pillows out of Anju’s silk saris. I’ve made five so far and have cut four more. I will have to figure something out for backing the silks while sewing — one of my books recommends paper, but I have no idea how that works — but so far have avoided this problem, because the waistbands of the saris are lined, so I’ve been using those pieces, and that has worked quite well.
I realized while sewing these pillows that there is an ethical consideration in selling items made from the saris. Anju gave them to me without condition, but it wouldn’t be right to sell things made with them for profit without asking her or offering her a cut. I will have to think on this.
At any rate, the silk eye pillows will make lovely gifts!
Very tired. Erik is out playing pool. I’m ready for bed and will gladly go to it when he gets back.
