Family interferes with work

What a day. Got up and did the morning thing, then wrote morning pages (very productive — came up with a couple of good ideas for the FabMo exhibition in October) and a blog entry about Eurie’s race. Then I was all set to go until a call followed by a flurry of emails from Al and Shra. This Al-leaving-for-college plus Shra-getting-married business is really taking its toll on Mommy’s ability to cope with things calmly. So there was that, until well after lunch.

After that I sorted mail and decided to bring myself back to a place of reason by making some Tulsi tea, doing my singing practice, and working on my braided rug. This was fine, but I ended up doing the rug for almost four hours, not at all what I intended. It’s still not finished yet, but it’s nearly there. I have discovered that it’s very pleasant to listen to music and sew the rug at the same time; I get to really hear the music, and the rug-sewing time passes much more quickly. But I have tender fingertips once more, and the workday is over and I haven’t done any of the things on my syllabus except for this rug!!

Tomorrow’s going to be a shortened workday too; I’m having lunch with Bright and then taking her errand-running afterward. I don’t expect to get much of anything done then either. Sigh. And I’ve decided to go to San Jose on Friday and stay through Sunday (or possibly even Monday), to soothe familial nerves. And so it goes. I don’t know how I will ever get anything done.
