Yesterday I woke up to the sound of a cat heaving. I thought it was Tisha because he usually has the hairballs, but when I got out of bed, there was Lyapa with a long black thread sticking out of her mouth. I jumped up and started pulling it out. It stuck fast, and Lyapa hissed and tried to back away. I realized, horrified, that the thread had been threaded through a needle stuck in my pincushion, and I was deathly afraid that that was why it wouldn’t come out of Lyapa’s mouth — she had swallowed the needle and it was stuck in her throat. Erik came over and helped hold Lyapa down, and the thread snapped and came out. We chased her down and I opened her mouth and peered into it. I did not see any signs of a needle.
Then I got to the dining table, where I had my sewing set up, and saw that the white threaded needle I had left in the pincushion was also gone. I don’t know my sewing supplies well enough to keep track of all the needles, so I couldn’t tell whether any were missing, but I kind of thought they were. We could only hope someone would step on one of them later…
This evening, Erik found two needles embedded (encased, actually) in a poop in the cat box. So Lyapa ate the thread and needles, they passed through her system, and now I know not to leave threaded needles out where she can get them… and she appears to be fine. *knocks on wood and crosses fingers*
Oh, and in other news, we saw Up and it’s ridiculously good AND incredibly emotional.
omg.
your cat is really not very smart…
Re: omg.
I know right? Who would see two pieces of thread hanging off the edge of the table and think, OOOH FOOD!
Re: omg.
That is SCARY.
Re: omg.
It was really terrifying to imagine. I don’t know how those needles got through her GI tract but I’m so thankful they did.
I LOVED UP! I got weepy. Mr. P teased me for it. I think it was the most emotionally affecting Pixar movie yet…
Erik and I both cried. 🙂
and how awesome is it that the kid is Asian? Yay! And for Pixar just to treat that Asian-Am character as just a character, and to avoid putting undue focus on his ethnicity…it just confirmed my deep and abiding love of everything they do.
Yes! I was so pleased and happy about that too. And sensitive as I usually am to Asian-Am stereotypes, I don’t feel that Russell really plays into any of them, so HOORAY for that. We’re moving UP! 😉
