Today’s yard sale take

$30 – six plant pots with draining plates, various sizes, all terra cotta, two of them glazed
$3.25 – IKEA plant stand (duplicate of the one we already have), Anastasia DVD, and small terra cotta plant pot
$1.25 – two kitschy white ceramic 10″ pie plates with pie recipes printed on them (one apple, one pecan), and Haroun and the Sea of Stories
$3 – pretty glass pitcher
$2 – Pyrex baking dish in a very funny size
$4.25 – awesome huge book, The National Museum of Natural History, that I am going to defile by cutting up into collage scraps. I feel justified in doing this even though the book is beautiful and out of print, because (a) I will never read it (though I will enjoy it while cutting it up), and (b) on Amazon it’s going for anywhere from 11¢ to $200. Also, the extra 25¢ got me a surprise for Al which I won’t name in case she reads this before I see her!
50¢ – For a Few Dollars More DVD

Grand total $44.25 🙂

I also saw: an awesome huge dark wood wardrobe from the 1930s or earlier, what looked like a high-school graduation portrait of a lovely girl also from the 1930s or earlier (almost bought this one), more antique sewing machines (and tables) than I can remember, a huge old jukebox-type radio, skis, an alarmingly large collection of knockoff Disney princess cartoons (!!!), a yard sale run by three adorable kids and their mom who apologized for having only kids’ stuff and nothing “for ladies,” a iced-tea and lemonade stand, a yard sale that consisted almost entirely of fake dried flowers and preprinted stationery, a huge TV, football magazines, several free unopened boxes of latex gloves, a disgustingly large assortment of fake furry cats that meowed from time to time (this actually made me giggle, but who’d want these in their house?!), an adorable mini antique trunk with lift-out drawer, a great deal of surprisingly decent framed art with none of the usual garbage, and tons and tons of VHS. It’s funny how these sales seem to have trends; last time, it was cheap blenders and beautiful baskets, while this time I saw no blenders and no baskets as nice as last time’s, but all those VHS and antique Singers. And last time there were no kids running any sales, and no pet dogs, while today there were several kids and small dogs, all cute.

I am having so much fun with these yard-saling Saturday mornings. I get to get outside, talk to some people, explore the neighborhood, move around a little, practice singing in the car, make adventurous last-second turns and crazy stops, check out other people’s stuff (always a voyeuristic pleasure!), test my imagination with every strange item and odd find, and maybe score some crafting supplies and household items.
