On the health front:
After six days of being sick, I think I’m finally better now. Erik is recovering as well; he’s about a day behind me. I’m sure the stress of moving and the dramatic climate change had their part in this. It’s been a long time since we were so sick for so many days at a time, and we’ve never both gone down at once! I’m so glad we’re getting better.
Alas, being sick and doing lots of moving and driving has taken its toll on my body. We’ve been sleeping without a bed frame for more than a week, so my back is sore; we’ve been sitting on the ground and taking long car trips, so my hips are sore; I’ve been hunched over and moving stuff, so my chest and shoulders are sore. I look forward to doing yoga again now that I can breathe through my nose and lie down without coughing. I’d like to expand into my body again.
On the home front:
We have some furniture now, courtesy of Erik’s parents’ impending move to a smaller house. I guess my interest in nomadic living couldn’t hold out against the reality of limbs not accustomed to doing without furniture, and I’m just too lazy to try and train them to deal with it. (Not to mention, we want our guests to come back willingly!) I am so incredibly grateful for the furniture, not just because it was free but because I actually love it all.
Here is a dresser which we turned into a credenza by removing the mirror:

And some adorable deck furniture that allows us now to eat and work outside:

This set may be anywhere from 20-100 years old, but I suspect it’s from the 1960s. Erik’s parents got it in the 80s from an elderly friend, who received it from his mother!
In addition to the furnishings, we’ve also cleared away the ants from our kitchen (poor things, I don’t like using poison traps and held out against it for a week until they started getting into cabinets). The cooktop is wonderful and so is the dishwasher, and we’ve had a lot of fun preparing food in our new kitchen.
Now that we’re all better and the house is getting settled, I’m looking forward to reestablishing my routines, doing some creative work, and welcoming our book club group when they come next weekend!
Mid Century Modern
Beautiful mid century dresser. It is a perfect representation of the aesthetics from that period! π

Re: Mid Century Modern
I thought it was likely from that era. We got the set: bed frame, two nightstands, and another dresser of a different shape. I love them all because of their smooth woods and clean lines. π New furniture is mostly so hideous and poorly made!
Hope you’ll get a chance to visit soon. π
glad to hear that you’re feeling better. And you’ve already got a book club group–you’re settling in so quickly! π
No, it’s the same book club — they’re sweet enough to drive up from LA for this month’s meeting. π
zounds, that’s commitment!
