Remember when I wrote amid deep frustration that I had gotten really fat and was trying to figure out why and how to fix it? That was my all-time-high weight, and since then, I’ve lost 8 pounds without doing anything dramatic. I’ve been exercising nearly every day instead of every couple of days, and I’ve started eating much smaller meals (sometimes almost non-meals — like half servings of pho — when my stomach has been upset), so I hope that is the reason. But, while I’m very happy to not feel enormous anymore, I can’t rejoice or self-congratulate too soon. If it turns out this weight loss is related to all my stomach problems (weight loss since 10/1, stomach problems since 11/28), then it’s more of a problem than an accomplishment.
I also wonder if the 8 pounds’ loss might be related to what Gina Kolata describes in her book on weight loss. She believes we all have a natural weight range that is difficult for us to exceed or go under. If that’s true, it could just be that those 8 pounds were an unusual dessert-inspired gain that went above my natural range, and that’s why I shed them so easily. I really hope it’s that and not the stomach problem(s).
yay for the weight loss! As they say, whatever works works. I also feel that I have a tendency towards a certain weight; I also hiccup w/weight–I might lose 5 lbs, then gain back 2, then lose 5, then gain back 2, and so on. It’s been a downward trend since last year, but it’s definitely a process. Hope your tums feels better.
