Today is turning out to be a somewhat less-than-productive day, especially compared to yesterday. Yesterday I was determined to be productive and active and healthy because I spent the weekend at my best friend’s house near Sacramento. I love Jackie and her family, and their houses, but after eating way too much cake and ice cream and other miscellaneous bad-for-you foods, staying up late to talk, and driving around in Sacramento-type heat (I’m used to walking!), I returned to Berkeley feeling very sluggish. So yesterday I got up reasonably early, did some Pilates and had fruit for breakfast, walked everywhere (no elevators or buses!), had healthy food all day long and got in an hour of satisfying piano practice before going to bed at a decent hour.
Today I woke up late. I’m still eating healthily but I’m taking elevators again, mostly because I’ve had a headache all day. This headache has also prevented me from being very productive at work, so I’ve emailed Barry and I’ve come back to my apartment to take Tylenol. I think it’s kind of working, but I’m still not sure if I want to do any more work.
At any rate, hopefully things will get better in a little bit. I’m meeting Erik at four to go try out the Derby St.&MLKJr. Way farmer’s market for the first time ever, and then we’re going to go to the practice rooms to play some more piano. Maybe tonight I’ll have enough energy left to watch a movie, too… Angela’s Ashes just arrived from Netflix today.
Oh, and I’ve just put in a subscription for The Nation. I discovered it while looking through 1917-1919 issues for work, and was impressed with their relatively unbiased coverage of the issues surrounding WWI–newspapers I read during that time period were so one-sided, people couldn’t even say that Germans were human beings (not exaggerating). I decided I would look through more recent issues to see if it’s still a good newsmagazine, and if it were, I’d subscribe. I kept forgetting or not having time to do this until today, when I picked up the 15 July issue and decided I liked it enough to subscribe. Plus, I’m a terrible history major–I don’t read the news at all, unless you count the Daily Cal, and I don’t. So now at least I’ll be a little more up-to-date on current events, hopefully.
