Obon

Yesterday Erik and I went to Little Tokyo for dinner, and found out it’s Obon! We walked to the temple and saw a scene much like this (with this exact song, if I remember right, and definitely some of the same dancers!):

We weren’t brave enough to join the happy dancers, but we stood and watched. It was awesome seeing the old people, the little kids, the random non-Asian people, everyone, doing the same dance in a circle. I’ve often wished my family had some kind of dancing tradition (well, I guess we sometimes bop to the radio), and I wished it again last night. But I’m glad we got to visit the festival! It was such a lovely random thing to come across on a Saturday night. 🙂
