I made this card in 2004 for my dear friend Sophie (aka Sphi). 

Sphi is a swimmer and was probably a dolphin in a former life.  She really loves water and the color blue.  I thought I would try and capture that love in my design.  I used many blues, and I think a couple of greens, in the "waves," and streaked it with blue and green glitter inks.  For the lettering, I tried to make the letters and the layout very fluid, like a flock of gulls above the ocean.  The gold glitter twist is the sunshine. :) 

I'm very pleased with the way this design came out, because it's much more abstract than what I usually do, but I love it.  So did Sphi. 

Then, when I first made my Art page and posted all the thumbnails, I showed the page to her.  She told me she quickly scanned the page and her eyes alighted on the thumbnail for this card: "Oo, blue!"  Then she clicked on it and realized it was the card I'd made for her.  Well, of course that might be because she's got the original card and the shapes were familiar to her and thus caught her eye, but I like to think it's also because I made a card that she could connect with on some internal aesthetic level. :)
